Daily Weather Records | Weather Forecasts | Weather Glossary | Weather Calculators
If you're looking for the right place to do your weather research, you've found it. Here, you can search our extensive weather glossary, find out where to find daily weather records, check out the best the Web has to offer for forecasts, and convert all those messy U.S. and Metric units back and forth to your heart's content.

You'll find the most comprehensive, friendly and easy-to-use source of monthly weather averages on WeatherbaseSM, guaranteed. But we know some of you are looking for daily records. Based on our research, we've found two great places to go to find that information.
- The Weather Underground - This excellent site is old-school Internet, dating back to the early 1990s. Search for a forecast, and at the bottom of every forecast page, you'll find a drop-down menu that lets you check the daily minimum, maximum and average temperature, along with the conditions of the day. The records go from 1994 and current to within 24 hours. (For example, here's what the weather was like on October 5, 1995 in Lansing, Michigan.) Records are both domestic and global. This is the place for recent historical data.

- Utah Climate Center - The granddaddy of daily historical weather data. The Utah Climate Center has daily records for at least 5,000 locations (we lost count) spanning the globe, with some records dating back to the 19th century. If it's not on this site, it's not on the Internet. Data is current, usually to within six months, so we'd recommend it for data dating before the early 1990s. One important note: this site is not user-friendly, so be patient in wading through the data. It can be tough to use, but once you get the hang of it, it is all at your fingertips.

There are thousands of sites on the Internet where you can find weather forecasts, but truly only a handful of sources that every else uses. We've picked the sites that we use and would recommend, limiting our list to the best place to go to find each provider's forecasts.
- Accuweather - These guys have been in the business longer than any of the other players, and generate their own forecasts. You can find 43,000 unique forecasts for the United States, with an option to buy more detailed weather forecasts, such as hour-by-hour forecasts.

- AOL My News Weather - This is the only site on the Internet with 10-day forecasts for 6,500 cities worldwide, with good, solid global coverage. The service provider is Weather Services Corporation, which is part of DTN/Kavouras. Our top overall pick.

- Intellicast - This site is operated by WSI. They do generate their own forecasts, but have limited global coverage. What they do well is "lifestyle" forecasts, giving you forecasts for ski conditions, gardening, boating, golfing, etc.

- National Weather Service - This is the U.S. government's meteorological organization. They are not the prettiest site, nor the most comprehensive, but the NWS forms the backbone of information that all other providers leverage for their own forecasts. You can get the raw information (cleaned up for normal people to use), including an hour-by-hour summary of the last 24 hours, here.

- The Weather Channel - The Weather Channel does their own forecasts, and they do them quite well, despite leaning heavily on the National Weather Service. They cover about 4,000 cities, with a good emphasis internationally. Their doppler radar maps are the most current, updating as frequently as every five minutes. One of our favorites, and a gold standard in terms of reliability.

- WeatherLabs - The new kids on the block in the weather world. They generate their own forecasts, and by far are the most advanced technologically of any site, with more bells and whistles than you could hope for. Their forecasts outside the United States are not the best, but they do have daypart forecasts and a very user-friendly site.

- Yahoo! Weather - Yahoo! Weather has the best overall international coverage, with solid coverage of the United States, including real-time weather alerts on forecast pages. Their provider is WeatherNews, which has a good reputation in the business.

Since the world seems unable to decide on one standard of measurement, it's often necessary to convert between U.S. and Metric units. We take care of this for you at WeatherbaseSM, but just in case, here are a few handy tools to perform conversions.
